Star Trek and Dimension X Album Art

With all the movies and serials and cartoons I’ve been commenting on, we’ve fallen behind on audio adventures.  We’ve got a bunch of doozies today.

We’ll largely listen to Star Trek — though probably not the Star Trek you were expecting.  We’ll listen to what Memory Alpha rather generously calls, the “Peter Pan Records Star Trek Audio Adventures.”

In the mid-1970s, Power Records subsidiary Peter Pan Records produced a series of records for children.  As was common at the time, such records were cheaply-produced.  The assumption was that children wouldn’t know the difference.

The Old Fan’s Commentary On
Target Earth
!

You’ve never heard of Target Earth? It’s not surprising.  Target Earth was a 1954 science fiction B-movie. However, unlike most B-movies, it has a medium-sized budget (for a B-movie). It’s well-written, well-directed, and well-produced.

It’s the precise opposite of The Old Fan’s Commentary On Plan 9 From Outer Space.

The Old Fan’s Commentary On Plan 9 From Outer Space

Yes, we’re going there.

Just like The Old Fan’s Commentary On The Star Wars Holiday Special, we’re descending into the bizarre world of Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Plan 9 From Outer Space is a hack-fraud movie from beginning to end. The film would is a classic B-movie, and probably one that most of the audience would have left.

It’s really, really bad — but fortunately, it’s so bad it’s good. The film has become a cult classic.

We’ll set the TARDIS controls for 1959, on premiere night of the film. You’ve seen everything else: the cartoons, the serials, the A-movie, etc. It’s coming up on 10pm, and the lights dim in a theater converted from a live theater. It could seat a thousand and includes a balcony or two. The curtains open on the screen, and then you see Plan 9 From Outer Space.

The Last Vampire On Earth – Sound Check
